Dr Cathy Matheson (BA (Hons), MA, PhD) is a Senior Lecturer in the Queen Margaret Business School. She is also a full member of the Centre for Communication, Culture and Media Studies.

Dr Cathy Matheson is a Senior Lecturer in Events Management in the Queen Margaret Business School. She founded the BA (Hons) Events Management programme and has undertaken a number of administrative roles. She has published articles in national and international journals, such as: Tourism Management; Local Economy and Leisure Studies. She has also published a number of book chapters and presented at a range of national and international conferences, for example, the LSA, AEME, ATLAS and the International Conference on Tourism and Management Studies. Cathy has been the Treasurer of AEME, an External Examiner at a variety of institutions, a reviewer of a number of journals, and an organising committee member for the CHME annual conference (³ÉÈËÖ±²¥, 2013) and the International Hospitality and Tourism Research Conference (HTMi, Switzerland, 2010-2011). Cathy also supervises doctoral students around the area of events, regeneration and sustainability. She has previously worked at Glasgow Caledonian University and the University of Sheffield.

Her research concentrates on aspects of consumer behaviour within a festival context and social justice and events. This work has been situated within a cultural and sporting event context, both nationally and internationally. Key areas in which she has published are as follows: authenticity and festivals; regeneration and sporting events; perceptions of human trafficking for sexual exploitation and sporting events; motivations, spiritual attitudes and festivals; and festival evolution. Her current work is focused on two areas: first, repeat visitation, spiritual attitudes and motivation and; second, service quality and satisfaction.

Cathy teaches Events Management modules which centre on the contribution of events to urban regeneration, the motivations of events consumers and service quality issues. She also teaches research methods and supervises undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students.
