PgCert Mammography
This programme is delivered by the Scottish Academy of Breast Imaging (SABI). SABI is part of the West of Scotland Screening Centre.
The programme is validated by ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥. Through our rigorous quality assurance procedures we ensure that the programme has the same academic standards as equivalent awards delivered by ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥. Students who successfully complete the PgCert Mammography may go on to complete a PgDip or MSc with ³ÉÈËÖ±²¥.
The PgCert Mammography is designed to train HCPC and Coru registered radiographers to the level of mammographer allowing them to practice autonomously to carry out standard mediolateral oblique (MLO) and craniocaudal (CC) mammographic projections as well as specialised projections and further assessment views.

Key features
Placements: A central element of the Mammography Programmes is workplace learning. In order to ensure that the learner’s workplace learning is achievable the formal support of a Clinical Trainer from SABI when necessary as well as an appropriate workplace and Clinical Mentor is required. The workplace must be able to provide appropriate experiential learning in order that award and modular learning outcomes and can be achieved. This is normally the learner’s workplace. It is the responsibility of the learner to negotiate an appropriate workplace.

Any other important points: The programme engages three cohorts of up to 20 leaners each academic year starting in March, August and November. The programme is delivered over 9 months on a part-time basis incorporating 3 academic blocks in weeks 1, 8 and 19 of the programme covering all taught elements of theoretical content. Workplace learning provides the essential mechanism by which theoretical concepts are integrated within clinical practice.
Admission criteria
Entry requirements for the PgCert Mammography is a BSc Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent or BSc Therapeutic Radiography or equivalent, HCPC registration or equivalent as a radiographer and working in a clinical environment which supports the clinical element of the programme.
